HI

Say hello to the sun for me. That's one of the great things about flying as a job, you get to see the sun nearly everyday.

You go for it.......

I bet it will be a lot better than you think , we'll all be thinking of you tomorrow, it sounds as if you're being very brave about this so a special well done from all of us. Have a wonderful holiday and let us know all about your flight as soon as you can .

Keith and the team.

Right, it is now roughly 1 day before my flight and perhaps it's indecent to talk about personal life on a public forum but I somehow feel the need to air my feelings somewhere.

I have been a nervous flyer for the past 3 years, and when I say nervous, I mean that I get totally terrified, petrified, overwhelmed by vast amounts of uncontrollable panic as soon as I do as much as entering an airport. In the past three years, I still have managed 1 flight to Italy, one to France, one to Chicago, and one to Portugal, because I had to for work. On all my European flights, I couldn't face the flight back and came back by train, spending, in the case of Portugal, 35 hours travelling back instead of the 3 hours it had taken me to get there.

Last Summer I had a conference to go to in Greece so I decided to take my holiday at teh same time and make it an across-Europe train and boat trip, and went through France, Italy, and Greece, stopping in various places along the way to meet with French, Italian, and Greek friends of mine. Beautiful trip, where I was lucky enough to meet my current boyfriend, who lives in Greece.

He came to visit me in london, we also went to Paris and Amsterdam, which was very nice as i could just take the train there. However, now it's my turn to go and see him, and I have no time to take the boat there and back as that would be the whole of my holiday gone. So tomorrow, I am flying to Athens, after which apparently, we will be driving to a surprise destination, he has got it all worked out and I know it will be magical.

As I said, I am the most nervous flyer i know (although you'd probably disagree) and as I have done absolutely EVERYTHING I could to avoid flying in the past three years. But amazingly, right now, I can't wait to be on that plane and get this b****y flight over and done with. I never thought i'd say this, but now i'm just thinking, bring it on: take off, noises, turbulences, landing, all those horrible bits that are part of the experience of flying, bring it all on, because all I want is to be in Greece! The end absolutely and wholly justifies the means, it also justifies whatever fear one can have. And I am talking to myself, thinking that with every breathe I take, excitement is taking over, and gaining grounds on fear. Right now I am scared as hell but everything in life is an exercise: I can almost feel that excitement is starting to overwhelm me, in the same way as fear used to.

It will be so nice to go through the clouds and see the bright light above them, in both literal and metaphorical senses.

Definitely attending, even if this means holding, and probably crushing, the hand of whoever is sitting next to me!

Thanks for everything Keith

Helping Each Other

We're here to help all fearful flyers by giving you support, help, encouragement and guidance.

So tell us your story, ask us how we can help.

And maybe you'll tell everyone you know about this forum because even if they haven't told you, someone you know is also anxious about flying.

Fear of flying? This is the internet's biggest free forum. The only on-line fear of flying course is at premium.flyingwithoutfear.com
