Hi Keith

I was just wondering if you could answer this question for me.

I wondered why some flights ie uk domestic say, could not operate flying at a lower altitude - below the volcanic dust cloud. Is it feasable to fly say at around 8-9000 ft? I'm thinking of aircraft like the Dash like Flybe use for instance.

Would that affect fuel consumption?

Is it a noise pollution issue?

Been mulling this over for a couple of days now and thought "I know a man who may be able to clear this up for me"

Thanks Keith

June

I must admit I wondered about that too...apparently the dust cloud is some 34,000 feet...so maybe if the planes flew at 20,000?..

That said..the dust is failing...there was something on the news tonight about it so it may still be an issue. Also on the news or teletext was a short piece that said the iarlines (it didnt mention which ones) have accused the government and Nats of over overeaction to the problem...
