Urgh big flight for me tomorrow – Manchester to London then London to Washington. I’m at that stage where I’m starting to panic and doing the ‘this time tomorrow I’ll be at the gate’ stuff.
I know I can do it and I know it’ll be nowhere near as bad as I always fear but the 24 hours before are always the worst. I kept dreaming about it last night and jolting myself awake!! I’m back in work too which isn’t much fun.
I was in work at 7am so I could do my online check in and make sure I got a decent seat (I hate the ones right near the back because I always seem to feel the bounce more). I know its not good to get too hung up on where I sit in case one day I dont get that area because it’ll end up in mass panic.
Anyway – I’ve had a read of the other posts and now I’m feeling a bit better. I know deep down I’ll be fine but my mind is having none of it!!!
Yours,
Scaredy Cat of Manchester :)

Oooh where are you off to? Tell me about your trip and take my mind off mine :)
I hate this part where you're just wishing the time away and want to get on with it. The anticiptation is worse than the actual flight sometimes!!!
I'm actually looking at the photos popping up at the side of here and they're doing me the world of good! There are two of me on a couple of flights and I look as calm as anything. Maybe I need to believe in myself a bit more.

You'll do great Jo :) Just remember it's not your job to fly the plane, the pilots will do that for you!! Keep us updated :)
I'm flying transatlantic too in a couple of weeks, my nerves are also kicking a bit.
My luxuries are all the motoring and PC magazines that I refuse to spend money on during the year.
On one trip I bought three books and didn't even open them until I got back from the holiday ... but it helps to make the flight more manageable ... even for me.

Well at least I don't spend a fortnight worrying about what I plan to wear during the flight ... that's how my wife 'manages' the flight.
She gets on board and builds a little nest around here. Pillows, blankets, magazines in flight entertainment guide and that's the last I hear from her. So I either get the window seat to look out and then disturb her each time i want to get up or i'm free to wander and miss the view!
it's much easier to fly the plane. You get the best of everything, view, service, choice of food, stretch your legs when you want, delegate ... Even choose the runway to land on!

Well done ...that's a long day! BUT you managed and that's progress so you are right to feel proud of yourself ... go ahead and take a gold medal from the winners' box!
Keith
Yay!! Well done - so proud of you!! Its strange isnt it the way the day before is actually worse than the flight itself for us. I'm shuddering at the mere thought of that day. Ooooh I did not know about this turbulence forecast - I dont know if thats a good or bad thing for me. I'm a bit of a chicken and may be better in blissful ignorance.
Sending you positive vibes for the flight home x
Jo
I think not knowing is better otherwise you sit and worry and if nothing happens you've used up all that nervous energy. Some people, though prefer to be prepared ... it's a personal choice. But you're right about the anticipatory anxiety. Thoughts are always worse than reality.
I was going to make a cheap joke about getting married being different but there are too many nice ladies on this community.
Now that's what I call being scared! Or chicken!
Keith
All good stuff

I'll sum it up in one sentence 'just checking online for flights to San Francsico in September'!!!
It was ridiculously pleasant to say the least. I did my usual tricks (new bag, expensive moisturiser samples, handcream, mags, photos of nephew - they make me smile so if I'm feeling iffy I have a cheeky look)and tried to make the most of it. The playlist I made of music was ultimate cheese and stuff that reminds me of happy times which coupled with a gin and tonic & earplugs sorted me out. In the 20 hours of flights the seatbelt signed didn't go on once!!! Every half an hour that went by I mentally ticked off another turbulence free one. We had a couple of bumps going over the Atlantic but I was more peed off that I nearly split my drink balanced on the arm rest.
I promise to be here for anything you need over the next few days - holler if you need ANYTHING!
