Tomorrow I fly from Maine to Tennessee.  Since Maine is waaay out there I have to take two flights. Oy! This is my first flight in about 2 and a half years.  I've been a white knuckle flyer for about seventeen years and I avoid it when possible.  I only found this site a few days ago, but I've been studying it very carefully.  I feel as though it has already taken the edge off of my anxiety.  I still have a big problem with turns, especially when the plane really banks to the side, and I'll be looking for more facts on the mechanics of that.

Anyway I will be purchasing the book because I have another trip in three months and I am tired of feeling this way!  Its nice to know there are more people out there who share my feelings and are working to get beyond them.  Good luck to you all!

Hi Jim

There's a lot of stuff on the main website here     MAIN SITE

That should keep you busy until you get the book!

A plane banks when it turns for the same reason that a bicycle leans when it turns ... I guess you never feel as if you're going to fall when going round a corner on a bike?

Keith ... Enjoy your trip and let us know how you got on.

Hi Captain Keith,

Thanks for your reply.  The flights from Maine to Tennessee went pretty darn well.  I was nervous, but I had a printout of your thirty-nine flying tips and I read that from time to time.  It helped!  Tomorrow I fly back to Maine.  I wanted to respond to your comments about a plane banking.  I understand the comparison to a bicycle turning... that part makes perfect sense.  But what keeps the plane from flipping?

Many thanks.  I think I am getting better at this.

it doesn't flip anymore than a bike would want or need to keep leaning when it is turning around a corner.

The other way to think of it is why would a car keep turning  just because you've moved the steering wheel? The natural tendency for the car is for the wheels to steer starightt ahead. Although this isn't exactly how it works on a plane it's near enough.

I hope this helps.

Well done so far!
