Here some moments I wanted to share with the group. Excuse me for my English
I got into the taxi leaving my family at home. I felt very sad that I have to leave my family and go, and then my wife convinced me saying it is for a very short duration and you can make it up. Somehow those words were very relaxing for me. On the way to in the taxi I lighted up a cigarette and smoked, and it was somehow helped me in getting relaxed. When I reached airport it was 11:30 PM and my flight was at 3:50 AM. As there was much time left and I do not wanted to sit inside the airport so I was roaming outside the airport and when the time was 12:45 AM I had one more cigarette and showed my tickets to the security people at the entrance and got in. It was one of the middle east airlines on which I was supposed to travel. One thing I want to add here is cacbin crews who are very helpful and cute looking. By looking at them my nerves got relaxed and I went through the security check in, sat down to announce the boarding and to relax. Boarding was announced and my nerves and muscles started getting tighter. Somehow I managed to sit on the seat. Captain announced the take off. Sometime after the takeoff I heard a noise which was similar to a juice maker. I was very scared at that time thinking on what is happening. Then I remembered captain’s writings which says after takeoff landing gears has to be closed and while closing it will make some noise. After remembering this I was very much relaxed. Crew members offered me meals which was good. I enjoyed the meal. After sometime I saw outside the window to see that the flight is flying above the sea and again I got nervous. At this moment I used relaxation techniques to calm myself which worked very well for me. I could not sleep throughout the journey as I was thinking that something might happen to me. Captain announced landing, during landing flight was shaking and I was feeling like I am falling from the sky. Again captain’ words helped me (Don’t hole the arm rest tightly and let go the way flight goes). This was very much helpful from captain and I thank him very much on helping me on this. After the flight touched down the runway I was very happy that I made it. But still if I hear that I have to travel somewhere by flight I am afraid. Recent air crash news may be making me afraid for which I will ask help from captain.
Overall, I thank captain and Sussanne Kaith for helping me to sit and manage to travel by air.

Regards,

Dharmendra

Well done My heartiest coongratulations to you. I am sorry that I have not been able to reply sooner. I hope that you will be able to find time to explain your flight even more fully and give us some hints and tips to help other people like you.

Yes, I am proud to say that I faced my fear. Last time when I traveled I was very much scared when the flight was shaking in the midair. This time I was very much relaxed and as explained by our captain I was not holding the hand rest tightly and I was going with the plane, Thanks for your suggestion captain...

I feel very sad for captain's recent family bereavement.

Hi Dharmendra

WELL DONE for faceing your fear. each flight will get easier and the sounds more familier. I am not familiar with all aircraft noises but perhaps it was the undercarriage wheels going back into place, I thought they sounded a bit like a juicemaker lol.
I am sure our Captain will reply as soon as he can. Sadly they have had a recent family bereavement.
Remember to CONGRATULATE yourself :)

I finished my travel. I was very nervous on my first flight. There were lot of noises, unfamiliar, not taking wheels off, not engine pressure, it was kind of something different, like juice makers sound, I heard it for 2 minutes and after that it was not there. Unfortunately I could not record the sound as all electronic devices has to be remained switched off until the craft reaches the cruise level. After that I was very much relaxed, I could not sleep though but smooth ride to the destination. But still I am not off the fear. Still I get anxious about flying.

I have done this just because of Captain, thanks captain for your great support to me. I have another flight this weekend. But this time I have to travel in 3 connecting flights....

Phoebe, darn good job there. You will do it again right? I cannot believe the whole trip was 36 hours... you must have been exhausted. I sent you a reply on your longer story of your trip.

I am really proud of you just as I was of myself.

Bring music with you, noise cancelling headphones ( a must) and plenty to read and things to keep your mind occupied like crosswords and stuff and most importantly, remember that turbulence is uncomforable but not dangerous. Put a glass of water on your tray table and watch it during turbulence, you will notice that it hardly moves, so that will tell you what is going on.

Also, and this is imperative, if you get a chance, please meet the captains and tell them your fears, most of the time I have found they are very friendly and I promise this gives you confidence. You can actually see who is driving you so to speak.

Have a couple of drinks to relax (if you drink) or anything that will help ease the tension. But be careful mixing sedatives and alcohol.

YOu will be fine.

Dharmendra, like Phoebe I too flew to Australia after 14 years no flying. Keith's prorgam worked for me I learned all I could about flying and my unfounded imaginations and yes, I too had tons of anticipatory anxiety, but as I was flying there was hardly any to speak of even 16 hours across the Pacific to Australia in cramped Economy (brutal).

I figured hey, I can't get off so sit back, relax and wait for the excitement when you get to your destination.

Mine was a surprise trip to Australia no one knew I was coming and I had not seen some family members in 19 years.

My fear was huge but I had to break through it. My dad has Parkinsons Disease and it is the only way I will get to see him while he is still in good shape.

You can absolutely do this... perhaps not fear free but do it anyway.

Watch all the videos on this site.... they really help too.

Hi Wilson,

Thanks for the help. I read Captian Keth's flying without fear E-book. It has given me tremendous knowledge and my fear has reduced 60%. I guess the breathing technique what you suggested is also working little bit for me.

It is a business trip to Middle east. I am not that lucky to get Xmas holidays as I am in India.

I thank you once again.

Regards,
Dharmendra
