Sights and Sounds Seminar

Are you thinking of signing up for a fear of flying course? If you are then read on.

Overcoming the fear of flying is not about getting on a flight and proving that 'you can do it'. Many people succeed on a 'graduation flight' but are unable to deal with their fear in different circumstances.

Airline courses vary . Some are programs that run over several week ends, more typically others run for a day with lectures in the morning and a graduation flight later in the day. For some people just ge… Continue

An Email

Just received this

Hi Captain Keith!!

So glad to receive this information! Since my initial posts on the forum - I have been able to overcome a lot of my fears of flying, and actually enjoyed a flight I took recently from Washington State to New Mexico! Still get jittery during takeoffs, but nothing like before.

I will definitely spread the word to anybody I know who has a fear of flying, and direct them to your new page - and I will certainly keep up to date on it as well!

All the best,
AS

Spreading the word about LOGBOOK 24/7

It's an accepted fact now that nearly 40% of the travelling public are anxious about flying. There's a whole bunch of people who just can't fly...until they come here

So many people have visited the site and forum in a state of despair thinking that they might never see their family or their friends again.

We've seen stories of broken romances cancelled honeymoons and family disruption that are not only very sad but, in the main, are avoidable. Ma… Continue

'LOGBOOK 24/7' The fear of flying social network

Our on line forum on the website has exceeded all our expectations...in fact its limitations are beginning to show. So we've decided to opened this new community which we think will be more suited to the needs of our readers.
Without doubt the best help and support that any fearful flyer can get is help and support that comes from people who feel the same way.

Sometimes fearful flyers want to hear from experts so that they can have their worries attended to, so we've kept the 'Ask the Captain'… Continue

Hi Keith, I did wonder if you had gone abroad or were very busy working on your next book or training pilots as you have been missed on the website.Glad to read you have been to Arizona
Less than a week now before I shall be winging my way across the Atlantic. Feeling excited but do feel a little apprehensive too. Also as we have the internal flight our luggage allowance is reduced from 23kgs to 20kgs so my challenge this next few days is to be ruthless in what I pack.
Do keep sending positive thoughts please from yourself and Viv.
Thanks,
Elizabeth

HI Keith, Thanks for your kind words.
This morning was so beautiful, bright sun and perfect blue sky, crissed crossed with many vapour trails( Hants seems to be on several flight paths)I really felt wanted to be flying seeing all the Autumn colours over Hants from above.
Less than 5 weeks until my big adventure. The internal flight in Cuba will probably be by ATR turbo prop a bit like Flybe, although the company does fly some Ilyushin craft, mainly for cargo according to their blurb on the web.Coping O.K at present, will be nervous and EXCITED on the day but have done Abu Dhabi and back this year.
Best wishes,
Elizabeth.

Thankyou Keith it is very much appreciated.

I have to admit to having a few wobbles ATM, but lost another brother in law on Friday & just had a phone call tonight, Ken's aunt has died. The pitfalls of being the youngest in a large family, so got a funeral this Friday then another one next week......

I have to get that positive head out of the cupboard to try and get my lists started.....least I know my passport is still valid :)

Hi Keith. I am off to Copenhagen again on September 18th for a few days break. I cancelled my last trip because I was so obsessed with the wheather and the potential of turbulance. Anyway, in order to face my fears, I have invested in your video and am reading your book. In the end, it will come down to me, but I do feel slightly better prepared. My aim is to keep focused on the 'now', remain positive, and to enjoy a well earned holiday!
Cheers, paul

Hi Keith,
Thanks for the email about the Sept 12 course - I will actually be on a flight to Australia then though!! Excitement is outweighing fear at this point in time, and the support I've had from you and members on the site has certainly helped me prepare - so thanks. Fingers crossed for a positive flying experience! Lauren

Dear Keith
Thanks for the welcome. Actually I'm a former very very nervous flyer. But with a combination of your book and some hypnotherapy ( don't care if it's useless as it seemed to help me) I have transformed myself from someone who would begin to worry about an air trip from the time a holiday/business trip was mentioned right up until landing to someone who just got on last weeks' flight to Malaga and even fell aslep for about 30 minutes.
I have been a fearful flyer for about 35 years and it really came to a head on a trip to Gibralter about 2 years ago when my fear ruined the two weeks before the trip, with the thought of the return flight ruining the whole holiday. My trips have always included loads of rituals - get to the airport to check in exactly 2 hours before the flight, no earlier or I'd be in the airport too long, no later or I wouldn't have enough time to get prepared. don't look at the check in girl/man and let whoever I was with always speak and hand over the passportsand take the boarding cards ( I could never and had never flown alone). Make sure that we flew BA at all times as this was the only airline with airplanes that I could trust not to be old and rusty with fully trained pilots . Make sure that I was seated at the back of the plane as this was the safest spot.
Go straight to departures clutching onto my handbag and head towards a bar - it didn't matter if it was 5am! Drink maybe 2 or 3 brandies ( only brandy, nothing else) and then exactly 30 minutes before the flight drink a quadruple brandy in one go.
Then go to the gate, get on the flight wthout talking to anyone, strap myself in and begin to watch the cabin crew, all the lights and listen for any noises.
Carry on with this alertness for the whole trip , drinking through the whole trip until basially I was so drunk that nothing really worried me. Then as i felt us begin the descent all nervousness disappeared in an instant and I really really enjoyed the landing.
Both Keith's book ( remember that turbulence is not dangerous only uncomfortable ) and the hypno ( relax and be aware of your surroundings) as well as advice that drinking and rituals only make things worse have completely transformed me. Last weeek I was looking forward to going on holiday, didn't even think about the flight until I was strapped on the plane, flew with Easyjet ( the plane seemd to be very new and the pilot well trained ....duh !!) and didn't have a single drink. When we had a bit of very light turbulence I just looked out of the window so I was in touch with my surroundings and did watch the relaxed cabin crew and imagined what it would be like to actually work on a flight and that it might be quite nice.
I am now planning my next holiday to see my friend in New York, she has been asking me to go for 3 years but I have always made an excuse.
I still might go on one of Keith's courses just to really cement my new found fearlessness. To anyone who is fearful of flying I would just say please do something about it as I really have suffered for 35 years for no reason and have also made my partner suffer with me.

Thanks, Keith. No guide yet; I guess it's still in the post.

Thanks very much for your supportive course in August. I'm attending the AviaTours course later this month. This goes one step further and involves a flight under "supervision"; I'm sure I will benefit from that.

Best wishes

Hi Keith. I am sending you this message from Malta, and I just wanted to let you know that my flight over was much improved after doing the course last month. I managed to spend about 1 hour of the 3 without my relaxation cd, but chatting to the girl next to me. So a big thank you and I hope my return flight will be even better! :-)

Hi Keith

Thanks for leaving me a welcome message I found one of your pod casts on itunes and having listened to it downloaded them all! (19 in total I think!) Having flown quite a few times when I was younger I found the more flights I took the worse I felt (my biggest fear is the plane crashing and I have a reoccurring night mare of watching planes take off and then just crashing back down) Anyway this fear resulted in me not flying for for 14 years.

I then went by plane to Guernsey, Majorca and Portugal last year as I have 2 small children and I dont want them to be held back or denied seeing lovely countries because of my phobia. I was assisted each time by medication from the Dr and a number of beverages. This I know is not the answer to dealing with my fear... and we are flying out to Spain on Saturday.. I have just ordered your book which I hope will arrive very soon!

I know I should have addressed this sooner but have just put it to the back of my mind.. I do feel better by coing on hear and reading about everyone elses fears and successes !!

Thank you Jo

Keith!

I just had an absolutely fantastic, fearless flight from Los Angeles to New Jersey, thanks to your site and CDs. I downloaded the CDs and listened to them during the flight, especially during any turbulence. I realized I had several fears I had never really identified -- but once I thought of your explanation of how it's no harder for the pilot to fly during turbulence and how the plane is operating far below it's capabilities -- I just thought of you up there in the cockpit and relaxed.

I even told my wife a couple of days later that we could take that trip to Paris she's been wanting to take. When we finally go, I'll send you pics!

I'm sure the book is great, but there's just something to me about hearing your voice and your words on CD. The CDs were invaluable!

Thanks again!

Hi Keith,
back home again now and your book has been read and re-read once again at 35,000 feet, I read the parts on take off, turbulance and landing like some sort of mantra over and over again when i get scared, it does help, to a point but take off and turbulence make me panic whatever I do - I just cannot tell you how happy I am when we land, and feel so silly for getting myself into such a tizz.
Thanks
Alison :-)

Hi Keith
That's ok, thank you for your welcome. I've had a good look at your website and it has debunked some of my fears! I've managed to avoid flying for nearly 10 years, which I know (having a psychology background) is the worst thing you can do!! I've now got a wonderful man in my life who is currently working abroad so I need to get over this irrational fear so I can visit him once in a while!
I am currently out of work so money is pretty scarce otherwise I would book on a course, I did do a fear of flying day but about 15 years ago - it helped me get on a flight to Mexico and USA but unfortunately I lapsed!!
Thanks for your support
Tina

Dear Captain Keith,
Thank you for your email. I would appreciate your help in trying to overcome my fear of flying. Please don't recommend that I do a Fear of Flying Course as I have done one and it didn't help me to confront my fear. It was very expensive as well.

Hi Keith,
Thanks for that, I will try. I feel like an addict trying to give these news reports up - I buy a paper not knowing an article is in, spot it, try to ignore it but ultimately give in and read it!! You are very kind and helpful and I really appreciate you taking the time to reply to me without making me feel silly. I keep telling myself how many flights take off and land safely in the world every day which I try to keep in mind. I will book on one of your courses when I am able to escape and make the journey :-) Thanks again, Alison

Hi Keith,
I write this message from Sharm in Egypt so am quite pleased with myself just for being here with my family but am now starting to dread the flight home on Friday. The flight here was fine but I just cannot get over the feeling of panic after take off, I feel as though I am going to fall back to the ground. I have tried everything you say in your book and constantly read and re read the parts that I should listen to, but that part of the flight makes me so frightened, I end up feeling sick and in tears and then feel such a fool after we level out and everyone is up and about. I have a 'sensible' voice in my head rationalising all the physics etc.. but panic just seems to take over that logic for a few minutes. It probably didn't help to read The Mail on Saturday when a journalist had written an in depth article on plane crashes and how modern pilots relied on technology too much, ie when the computer crashed so does the plane. Are they any nearer finding the black box from Air France yet? How will they find it now? Will the battery operating the tracking device still work after all this time? Will I ever feel better? I try to keep flying in the hope the more I do it the less I will be fearful but it is not working. Thanks :-)
