Hi Andy...

and welcome to this social network for people like you...who are anxious about flying. We’re all here to help you in any way that we can. You may want to just browse or you may want to join in, we don’t mind, whatever helps you is what we want to encourage you to do. I’m sorry that I’m unable to send you a personal message but administering this network and the website in addition to answering questions is very demanding of my time and I would rather greet you with this message when you join than get behind with personal messages.
I’m here to answer any questions you have and to give you support help and encouragement. I can’t offer you any quick fix solutions or any miracle cures because there are none. We deal with all the things that make people fearful on this social network and on our website at

http://www.anxiousflyers.com

When you signed up as a member we asked you about the things that make you anxious so we have answers on the website that address those issues. You can find those pages on this link.

The most common feature of anyone trying to overcome their fear is delay. Rather than set about overcoming a fear today, most people put it off until tomorrow. Tomorrow seems a safer and better day...perhaps something will happen that makes facing the fear tomorrow easier than facing it today. And as I’m sure you know there’s no point in doing anything now, because you’re not flying yet!
But has doing nothing ever made flying easier for you? I’ll make it easier for you to get started in my next message to you.

My first ever post on Keith's site was about exactly the fear that you mention- the feeling that one was totally shut in with out any control and encased inside a metal tube once the doors were shut.. However,1) keith told me the pilot is able to manually open his side window in a 'plane. Just knowing this did make a difference to my thoughts. There is plenty of air circulating around the cabin.
2) I have learnt to do diaphragmatic breathing. Really concentrating on inhaling and counting, holding my breath and counting and exhaling through my mouth helps to calm myself. Changing one's thoughts from negative to positive ones helps too. Telling your self o.k I am on this 'plane for x number of hours but soon I will be on a beach enjoying myself /seeing my family or whatever the reason for travel is..
In six weeks time I am embarking on my longest flight so will be preparing myself physically and mentally for the adventure and challenge ahead .
Could you get yourself to one of keith's seminars? The next one is 10th October. You get to sit inside a real plane and work the doors for yourself and keith will answer any questions you have.
Cheers,
Elizabeth

Hi Andy,
Read as much as you can from the main anxious fliers site link. Watch the videos which address your fears.
Can you identify what scares you the most about flying?
Elizabeth.
