Well tomorrow we go to Cyprus at 7am leaving Glasgow.I have had hypnotherapy to relax me but I still cannot sleep and have felt ill for the past 2 weeks thinking about it. i chose to go because my 4 girls and their dad were going to go without me anyway as they are looking forward  to a holiday and we have been given a villa for free so it was either stay here myself or go .Now I do not know if I made the right decision!!!!

Hi Francis,Sending you good wishes for your flights.I found that being on a large plane 777 or 747 felt so roomy that I did not experience any claustrophobic feelings at all . My first posting on Keith's original forum page was about feeling or being scared of feeling claustrophobic once inside a 'plane. Since that posting when Keith told me the pilot was able to open one of his windows I feel one is not entirely "sealed" in. I also do deep breathing exercises and relax to a C D in the days leading up to my flight.Enjoy the valuable time with your family. Life is for living to the full and every day is precious and offers the opportunity to explore new challenges. My brother in law has just been diagnosed with a serious form of cancer at 58, just a bit older than myself -it has really made my husband and i think deeply about what we wish to achieve over the next few years leading to retirement and exploring different far away countries is a high priority.I am sure you will be fine, the anticipatory anxiety is usually worse than the flights themselves. Here's to reading about your trip to N Z on your return, best wishes, Elizabeth.

Hey! 25 hours! That is really a long trip. Where do you currently live now? One thing I read on this site that helped(aside from your advice) was to start counting to 80 when the plane gets bumpy, by the time you hit 20 it will be over..That helped me. The reward will be great as well, seeing your daughter and granddaughter..something to look forward to...let me know how you do...

Hi Francis... a very late but warm welcome to you and thanks for joining us. I hope you’ll enjoy the network and find it useful to you in overcoming your anxieties about flying. We don’t have rules with regard to posting stories, experiences and emotions about flying. We’re all here to help each other. Despite my 50 years in flying I can only support and give you the facts, the real help comes from people like you, sharing your feelings with like-minded people.
Talking about flying and sharing strategies is invaluable in overcoming your fear. Please feel free to ask me as many questions as you need, and if you don’t understand the answer or I’ve misunderstood you, keep on and on at me until I’ve answered your question. I’m here to help.
We’ve got a lot of help and information on our website (anxiousflyers.com) and our shop has all the help you’re ever likely to need (Book, CD, DVD, Guide, Audio Courses) .
Most people who suffer from a fear of flying think that tomorrow, next week or next month will be the best time to do something about their fear. May I suggest, and I know this as a result of helping people to overcome their fears, that you get on with it as soon as you can.
Don’t wait to do something ...do it now. Face your fear as soon as you can...there’s no better time than now even though you probably feel that you’re not ready yet.
The quicker you fix the problem the longer you’ll spend being free worrying thoughts rather than adding to them. Our promise is to help you to go flying, and within the realms of normality there’s nothing we won’t do to help you if we can.
Remember, I’m here to help
On our site anxiousflyers.com there’s a page that deals with the particular worries that you may have mentioned on the sign up page. When you’ve read that go to the START HERE page of the site to begin your journey to overcome your fear of flying.
I hope we’ll speak soon.
Captain Keith
