I'm 18 years old and I've never been abroad before. I was just chosen to represent my country in a youth exchange this coming August and as a group, we're going to Cyprus. Everyone tells me that it's scarier flying over water. And honestly, I feel like I'm just gonna choke on the plane. I don't know what scares me the most about this flying thing, but I'm terrified of heights and of the fact that I wouldn't have solid ground beneath my feet. Is there any way I'll be able to go to Cyprus and…Continue

Flew from Belfast International to Iceland and back last weekend. Outgoing an early morning flight the return flight late evening so not so much to see.
We arrived in Iceland too early to book in to our hotel so we were taken on a short tour. Our first stop was at a Visitor/Tourist Centre of some description. I went downstairs to use the toilets. The lighting was quite dim and I accidentally walked into a water fountain which was practically at a level with the floor. Apart from…Continue
I survived a trip to Bali! I was so terrified before I left, the usual sensations, irritability, feelings of impending doom, loss of control, sleepless nights and panic attacks. As a nurse, I can identify what is happening to me, and I can also identify the pattern of what is happening, but I cannot control it. I even make sure I clean up my affairs so that if I die on the plane its all in order.
So, in order to stay sane, I found Captain Keith…Continue
Well after 7 long and depressing years of avoiding holidays, I've bitten the bullet and I'm going on holiday in just over a week. I've handled the thought of the plane quite well so far, but to be honest it feels quite surreal. Nerves are starting to kick in now, but I've had enough of my fear holding me back. It's nice to read everyone's positive experiences and it'd be nice to know I'm not on my own!

Just posting about my little family's upcoming trip to Barcelona on Saturday (returning from Madrid the following Saturday). I'm extremely apprehensive as I haven't flown for 2 years and when I did I had a level 10 (!) panic while waiting to taxi. To be fair, that was the outbound portion and I did manage to stay in touch with reality on the return. I'm also nervous about travelling back on the 767 aircraft which my mind is telling me is 'old' (and of course about to fall…Continue
Fly to Iceland from Belfast International with Jet 2 on 19 April returning 21st. Always good to check in her first! Thankfully haven't suffered from the normal anxiety which would have started by now!
Must look up the flight path - I have found this a great help along with taking a window seat. It helps to make flying normal for me. I dare say I will have a few twinges before I travel but I have discovered I have those apprehensions by whatever method I travel. I will be driving…Continue
When I first started flying 13 years ago,I were a nervous wreck, the more frequently I flew the better I became, and getting on the plane became second nature like getting in a car or on a train.Recently,I have had a very bad case of Labyrinthitis which I seem to have recovered from, unfortunately, it has caused my fear to return.I'm really worried about how the change in pressure will affect my ear's and when the plane takes off and turn's will it cause a me to feel like I'm in a "spin". I'm…Continue

I had flight on Sunday to LCG and at that time there was storm with gusts up to 130 km/h. So turbulence in the place was quite high. I would fall from my chair if not seatbelts. Anyway I didn't had any panic because of this, but it was extremely unpleasant.
Now I need to fly back home from LCG on Friday and forecasts are more or less the same. I feel really stressed. I hope on takeoff it will be better as plane should reach high altitude faster, but still it's a big…Continue
Another return flight to Leeds this week and planning a trip to Rome September. Definitely the more I fly the more natural it becomes. I love looking out now and viewing the scene below - weather permitting!

I was never scared of flying until I was about 25. After that I became petrified - although I flew a few times a year, I would always grip the seat handles, be tense throughout and jump at every noise. The worst was just before I was about to go on honeymoon, I had complete hysterics in the toilet at the airport thinking "I've just got married and now I'm going to die!". However, since having children and flying quite regularly with them from Scotland to Cornwall each year, the…Continue
It's been just over a year since I first looked on the website and started using some of Captain Keith's tips and strategies, as well as accessing the wealth of info he shares with us on here and in the book. Since then, I've had 2 enjoyable flights, both to Gran Canaria.... And a recent return flight to the UK that was not so enjoyable - but a good test for me!!
All of my most recent flights have been smooth, fair weather, turbulence-free flights, so coming in to…Continue
Flying tomorrow morning from Belfast International to Newcastle on way to Alnmouth for Christmas Walking Holiday.
My thinking tries to play games with me for a few days before a flight but good to recognise, it for what it is - turned the news off this evening when they were interviewing people re Lockerbie. Whilst it did not disturb like it would have before though it best not to watch before a flight!
I'm Flying to Florida this Sunday. I've been a fearful flyer for 15 + years. Last summer I purchased the Flying Without Fear book, and it has made a big difference. It used to be that the very act of purchasing tickets put me in a panicky state. This time I was totally unfazed. As the departure draws near I am getting just a bit antsy, but more than anything I am just looking forward to family and the holidays. Good luck to all of the holiday flyers out…Continue
Have told the kids we are going to Lapland now so no changing my mind about that flight now.
Nine days to go and OK at the moment but comes and goes in waves - using elastic band method & reciting Captain Keith's advice on regular (if not hourly) intervals !

Hello my friends,
Just wanted to share with you my last experience from flights CPH->RIX and after 3 days RIX->CPH. Well what can I say... I feel that I'm getting better and better. No more worries week before flight, even no worries day before, I could even sleep before flight without any problem. Then small anxiety arrive to me when I was driving to airport, waiting for flight and take-off/climbing. After that everything was gone. I've felt super confident, no worries. I was…Continue
