I was reading this blog - the thing about the spoons. I remember Keith telling us about it on the groundcourse, and Enrico going to the bathroom to try it out. And I vaguely remembered having heard of it before.
A day or so after posting the blog, Keith gave the answer to what caused it - Bernoulli's principle. Again, I thought it sounded familiar but I didn't really know…Continue
It's been a while since I was last time here. Was quite busy these days. So... Time is running very fast. Now I need to book some tickets and I have choise of traveling from 23 hours to 53 hours. The choice is big. I just wanted to share my fears with you about this situation. I have one possibility to fly to London, take nice sleep in hotel and next day fly to port of Spain with BA. Other possibility is to change 3 planes, no hotel minimum 23:50 hours of flight. So the first option seems to…Continue
3 flights this week. Flybe flights from Luton to Isle of Man and return today. Pilots good pointing out landmarks and towns we were going over. Nice polite staff at IOM security talking normally to us as they x-rayed our luggage. Not nice and rude at Luton. (memo to myself never travel from Luton again). But the 3rd flight was in a Helicopter from Shoreham airshow last Saturday. My first helicopter ride put me off flying for 30 years so I pleased I had the opportunity to show how far I had…Continue
I have flown many times over the past couple years, and while always a bit nervous of turbulence, I normally did fine. In two days I need to fly to Chile for a meeting. I am so nervous I am sick at my stomach. But, I think I know why; I can't stop thinking of that Air France flight that went down in thunderstorms a couple years ago after leaving Brazil.
The past few days I have been glued to weather radar in the equatorial regions. I am flying from LA and my…Continue
Flying to Jersey this Wed 5th from Belfast International. All my flights to date have been to the mainland so by small steps Im flying a little bit further. Thankfully so far I am not suffering that pre flight anxiety -big change for me.
Hi there! Just got back from Lanzarote and had 2 great flights: on the way out we were sat at the front of economy next to the exit door and had a stewardess sitting directly opposite us on take-off and landing. Was reassuring to see the stewardess looking completely relaxed. I knew I was overcoming my fear when the boy behind me said that the wings looked like they were going to drop off (was just windy on landing), and my reaction was to smile - they CAN'T fall off!! On the way back we…Continue
I really want to say a massive thank you to Captain Keith. After reading his book and watching the dvd I took a 2 and a hlf hour flight to Girona and did not panic or cry and was really calm throughout the flight.
I fly at least twice a year with my husband and my 2 yr old daughter. My fear hasnt stopped me flying but it has certainly made the holiday less enjoyable.I still had a few glasses of wine to relax me on this flight.
I am taking my 2 yr old to a wedding in Seville with…Continue
I just wanted to say a massive thank you to Captain Keith and the fantastic Flying Without Fear books. For the first time in over 10 years I did not cry on a flight, I did not cry during take off and I did not have a panic attack at the first sign of turbulence and the biggest achievement of all I looked out of the window during take off (on both outbound and return flights) AND did not have to hold my husband's hand for the first half hour of the flight. I put this mainly down the the…Continue
hi amanda. i.m having trouble with doing these blogs! just sent one to myself! thankyou. I would like to travel in the middle of sept. am reading all the self help books! but havnt dared to make a booking! how is your fear going Amanda?
i have never been on a plane.the thought of flying terrifies me! joining fear of flying is my first step. would perscription medicati ons sooth severe fear long enough to cope with a short flight?
have just joined the site after watching Keiths DVD and have bought the book (but not yet read). Am going to New York on 5 September with my husband , daughter (25) and son (18). This is the first ever family holiday abroad together. I was diagnosed with breast cancer when my son was 5 months old and I feel so happy to still be here and to be going with them, but at the same time I am terrified.I Suffer from claustrophobia (after being stuck in a lift some years ago), and have a history…Continue
What was different about this flight?
In the run up to the flight, I didn’t spend as much time dwelling on it or panicking, and I think the course had a lot to do with that. There wasn’t as much to speculate about and I could answer a lot of questions that came up on my own. Having said that, in the week before there were a couple of days when the nerves did hit, and badly! I probably crammed a week’s worth of fretting into two days. My mantra for the week was, ‘there’s nothing…Continue
So I am heading into three days of travel tonight, including three flights. Definitely less anxious after reading several posts and knowing that there are other people out there. Still can't fly without medication but the days leading up aren't nearly as angst ridden as usual.
During my flight I just have to repeat over and over to myself that I claustrophobia is a fear, fears are normal and I have to relinquish control. On my flight here I told the flight…Continue

I still don't know exact date, have no tickets, but starting to worry already about my first transatlantic flight. It should be somewhere in mid September. What I'm afraid of most ? Maybe longs trip. It depends on tickets, but its possible I need to take 3 planes and 24-32 hours traveling in total. I don't like that idea.
Other problem - I can't sleep in planes. So, 3 take-offs, 3 landings, waiting in airport for connecting flight and so on... Bah... I can…Continue

Edited version. Full version is here on my other blog.
I was nervous going into this course. Normally, when I get on a plane and I’m scared, I do everything I can to block out the fear and the negative thoughts and try to ignore them. But today I was actually going to face them and not block them and it seemed like it was going to be a difficult thing to do.
But despite being…Continue

Sorry if this makes no sense. I can't sleep (worried about stuff) and I thought I'd write a blog post. I actually wrote a long blog about my experiences on Keith's ground course but I'm not sure if I'll post it (it's not bad or anything, it's just long.)
I’ve been thinking a lot about the things I learnt on the course and on my own strategy for getting over this (because I WILL get over this <grrrrr>.)
I think I’ve been holding onto this fear, a bit like a safety blanket.…Continue

Just got back from Newcastle and even though it was a 70 minute flight, the last 30 mins of it was sheer terror for me. Looking back on that now I've had a cup of tea, it's kind of embarassing in a way as there were quiet tears from me and then a quick excuse to run to the bathroom to be ill. Since the Japan flight I was kiiiind of hoping it would be okay since it was a short hop, but ouch I think that one set me back.
We were unfortunate to encounter bad weather, heavy…Continue
