just been on keith's course. brill and recomend it but realize that all the hard work is for me to do. actually felt worse afterwards but that is because i now know the fear is mine to solve - not everyone else's. have flown loads and will fly again - just like to do it without the fear of death. got a flight booked in 4 weeks with 3 of my 4 kids and as a lone parent have to do it without scaring the children. My aim is to encourage myself and the children to listen to the safety anouncement…

Flew from Belfast to Leeds 29 October and returned Leeds Belfast on Tuesday evening 2 November 2010. I went through my usual anxiety before going on the 29th and a quick chat with Captain Ketih was a big help. We had a female pilot flying from Belfast - which actually pleased me, some people are not too keen!). The flight went well although we were on the plane 30 mins before take off as they were being told by Manchester take off could not be before 7.30am. I took my usual window seat and…

Having read through many posts I feel almost a cliche in my fear of flying. What at first seemed to me to be a very odd fear to develope, is actually very common.
I am 40 years old and have probably flow at least two return flights every year for the past 20 years. Some years many more due to work. Flying never bothered me, in fact it was almost boring to me. I liked the take-off but just wanted to get to my destination for the rest of the flight. About 15 years ago I was…

On 10/27 I will be flying from North Carolina to California. It will be my first flight since 9/11 and I wish I could have taken the course here in the US. I've been using everything I can on the site and reading the book, so I hope this won't be a nightmare flight for me. Please consider giving your course here.

Forthcoming Flight Friday 29 October
I almost feel embarrassed now to put up a posting when I see the long flights others are taking and I can only manage from Belfast to the UK. In spite of myself and without even consciously thinking about it as the flight gets closer I can feel the anxiety creeping in always in the form of thinking of dying and "Will I be back?"!! I was hesitant about posting this thinking maybe I am drawing attention to it too much. I look at lovely bird watching…

Hello,
I'm very excited to have found this resource, as I have been afraid of flying since my teen years. I have only flown once in my life - when I was 8 years old. From what I can remember it was a positive experience, but after dealing with anxiety and panic disorders in my teens and 20's, I've just assumed that flying was something I "couldn't handle". Fast forward to next week, and my fiance and I are travelling to New York City (my first time there so I'm a little…

Two days to go until I fly to Ibiza with my family, I've not had as much time as I would have like to study, plan and practice my strategy for the flight but keep referring back to Saturdays course. I seem to keep fixating on the take off.. However I keep trying to concentrate on the here and now, the relaxation technique for the actual take off and reminding myself how an aeroplane is cushioned by the wind / air flow. I am very much… Continue

Hi there every one
I attended yesterday's course at Alton in Hampshire along with Ana, Chrissie and Diane. Arriving early we all met up for a coffee and had a chat about who we were and our reasons for attending the course. Keith and his lovely wife Viv were immediately easy to get to know and it soon felt like they were old friends!.
It was brilliant to see Ana get on the plane after 30 years of fear and I know she was absolutely 110% proud of…

I am so pleased with myself.Having claimed the fear of flying, i can now claim the victory over the fear and say well done to myself.
When I arrived at the departure lounge Cafe, one of the other participants, Jo (there were 4 of us) asked me where i had come from i was so scared that i couldnt remember where i lived!!!
One of the big probs for me is the feeling of being shut of being trapped,i am very claustraphobic and over the years i have built up the fear…

Hi everyone!
This is my first blog.
I am sooooo glad to have found this website. My husband bought me the "Flying without Fear" book and I have devoured it!!!!
My "in-laws" live in Mallorca (I live in Scotland). My mother and father in law died a couple of years ago and I am ashamed to say I wouldn't allow my son (who is now 12) to fly to see them. They died a couple of years ago and I now realise he missed out on seeing them because of MY fears.…

Hi all,
I just wanted to share my experience on this fear of flying that I am starting to overcome. I was a frequent and happy flyer till 4 years ago. I was on a plane to Hamburg and it was a bit windy and I felt like if the plane was falling. Of course it wasn't as I know now, but that was enough to trigger my first pannic attack and since then it has been going worse. The fact that I live abroad and that I associate flying with leaving the family behind wasn't helping either. I…

Made it back home safe! Costa Rica was beautiful and worth all the anxiety that I pushed through to get there. Just remembering my breathing and all of the information on this site helped tremendously. Compared to the driving that we did in Costa Rica flying was the safest part.
Glad to be home,
Jill

I last flew about 30 years ago....and have over the years built my fear up and now it has become a phobia. My main problem is the claustrophopia and the fear of the fear!!!
I have now been getting into a lift and dont like it but can manage it by distracting myself and claiming the fear. Everytime i get a wave of panic i twang an elastic band round my wrist!
I have booked to go on one of Captain Keiths couses, and am due to go on it on the 21 august, am nervous…

Wow, I'm so happy to have found this resource! I have been a nervous
flier for 15 years after an especially rough flight and "unscheduled"
landing (which I now know was all probably very safe). I struggle from
intense anticipatory anxiety and am struggling now as I leave for Costa
Rica (8 hour flight) in two days!
I'm practicing my breathing and positive thinking. I did some EMDR
therapy but don't know yet if that will help. Watching these videos of
take…

It has been 2 months now since my flight to Barbados and although the flight was delayed for 5 hours I wasnt too bad.at this point. However I was then sat on the plane for another hour waiting for the captain to get his flight route (volcanic ash) and thats when the panic set in. I started to cry and felt sick. As it taxied down the runway I could see my daughter and grandaughter waving and this made me feel even worse. The plane left the ground and I could only… Continue

Hello All,
I have 7 weeks to prepare myself for my flight from the UK to Hong Kong and I am determined that I will be calm and relaxed and enjoy my flight. One of my friends says he enjoys flying as he sees it as the start of his holiday and I want to feel that way too! :)
I already own the 'Flying Without Fear' book and have read through it many times. I am now looking to refresh all this information by signing up to this site and am hoping to meet…
