Flying from Belfast to Leeds again tomorrow.
Flying to Iceland in April and to Nice in September! Some distance for a fearful flyer for me to have ventured

Hi everyone, I just got back from Hong Kong last night. It was a good flight, the take off was a bit bumpy, because of weather conditions but the rest was smooth. Looking back, I would have to say the anticipation was the worst bit for me. Because 2 days prior to my HK flight, my flight from Tokyo to Hong Kong was bumpy for a while. That made me very anxious coming into the final flight home.
I avoided flying since 2006, but in the last 4 weeks, I've taken 6 flights! It's not easy,…Continue
I have an 8-hour flight coming up on Saturday. It's actually 2 x 4 hour flights with an hour transit in Hong Kong.
Even though I've been expecting this day for 6 weeks (since I booked my flight) and 6 years (since my last flight), I still feel anxious. I have been practising breathing exercises and will bring a whole bag of distractions with me onboard.
I'm trying to remain calm and trying to use the information I've gained to normalise my fears but I have…Continue
Hi everyone, I'm off to Tokyo, Japan, next Saturday. I'm very excited about this trip, Tokyo has been on my vacation wish-list for a long time :)
I was wondering if anyone has tips or advice on things to distract me or to help me focus if the flight encounters turbulence. I have listened to Captain Keith's CDs which do a great job of explaining turbulence and have read his book as well. Despite understanding why it happens, I do feel very anxious when it does. So, if anyone has great…Continue
I'll be off to Japan 2 weeks from now. Since my last flight a week ago, my nerves have been getting the better of me. I'm feeling more nervous than my last flight.
My upcoming flight will involve a one-hour transit in Hong Kong. I have this irrational fear that I will make the leg to Hong Kong but will refuse to board the connecting flight to Japan.
I've been unfocused at work and just very jittery all around. The anxiety is so strong that I've lost my appetite :( I've even…Continue
flying out Sunday Dec2 need encourgement and help from people who feel like me
I'm flying off to Thailand in less than 24 hours. Actually I should be in Bangkok in 24 hours.
I'm feeling extremely nervous and anxious right now. Half of me is afraid that I will just turn around at the airport, half of me wants to beat this fear. It's a struggle.
On top of everything else, I seem to have caught a bug. My stomach not's well, don't really have an appetite and I'm feeling light-headed and giddy. I do suffer from vertigo and am getting treatment at the moment.…Continue
I'll be taking my first flight in 6 years next weekend to Bangkok, Thailand. I'm feeling terribly anxious and unprepared at the moment. The last time I was supposed to board a plane, I actually got all the way to the airport, checked in but did not board the flight.
I'll be practising visualisation techniques for the next few days and I'll also make a trip to the airport, to familiarise myself with the surroundings, take note of where the check in counters are, etc.
Finally I did it !!! I've just returned from my first transatlantic flight. I took 4 planes in overall with 6 takeoffs and landings. Well what I can say... that was great !!!! Its very strange for me to say such things about flying, but that was just great and I'd love to repeat that :)
Ok, now things I like on that flight:
1. British Airways. This airline is incredible. I don't know if others do the same, but on BA you can even find short film for fearful flyers in the…Continue
Hi everyone! In preparation of my upcoming trip, I've been trying to find out more about the airline I'm flying with and came across their YouTube channel. I'm flying with Cathay Pacific Airlines soon, and not that I am endorsing this airline or anything like that, I just wanted to share their YouTube channel with you.
They have 2 short videos titled, "A day in the life of..." and follows a pilot and flight attendant as they get ready for a flight. Through these videos, I learnt that…Continue
I was having lunch with 2 colleagues today and they were asking me which part of flying do I find most frightening. So I mentioned turbulence. I said while it makes me anxious, I know it's not dangerous and lasts a relatively short period of time.
One colleague said that sometimes planes will "drop" suddenly so we should keep our safety belt on at all times. Though she did end by saying that cabin crew face the most danger because of the nature of their work, they can't be strapped…Continue
I've just booked my first flight in 6 years to Tokyo. The flight time is about 8 hours and involves one 1-hour stopover in Hong Kong. It's been so long since I booked a flight that the whole experience felt surreal. I'm feeling happy and excited at the moment. This is just the first step though.
I'll probably book another short flight before the December trip. Probably a 2-hour flight to Thailand from where I live. To give myself an incentive, I was thinking of splurging on a…Continue
After years of dodging flying, I've got to take a one hour flight in the middle of next month for a family gathering. It's only a one-hour flight and it does seem silly to be frightened of it. It doesn't compare to the long 14-hour flight that I have to take next year.
I feel anxious and excited at the same time. Anxious about stepping inside an aircraft again but excited that taking this flight is the first step I am taking towards overcoming my fears. I'll probably by posting more…Continue
Hi everyone! I'm Lyn and I live in Asia. It's challenging living in Asia and being a nervous flier, options like ground courses are not available to me. While I've always been a slightly nervous flier, but I've managed to travel to wonderful places like across Asia, Australia and the US.
However, after having a panic attack on my last flight, I haven't set foot on a plane for 6 years. I tell myself that it's alright and my life is fulfilling enough, despite not being able to travel.…Continue
Ok, my first transatlantic flight was deferred, so now I have 100% news that this Sunday is the day I will start my first transatlantic journey. Today I've started to feel really nervous. Really. The first thought that goes to my head - turbulence. Again, I can blame media for this. If I didn't read news about FA injuries during turbulence now I wouldn't be so afraid. Turbulence was never the thing I'm afraid most. I always new that it is safe. Now I feel tensed about that. I just can't…Continue
I want to tell you something of my story in case anyone else can relate. I think like lots of fearful flyers, I used to enjoy flying. Apart from a few little nerves at certain moments during a flight, mainly because the sensations felt unusual or a little uncomfortable, I generally relished the whole experience, including anticipating the trip and getting to the airport. I used to love looking at the aircraft whilst waiting at the gate, contemplating how amazing it was that…Continue
Good afternoon Keith
I used to be a member and want to thank you for all your work; over the past 3 years I achieved great success flying without fear, one or two times every month, mostly for work.
The fear has returned for some unknown reason, however, and the past two flights I've taken I found very scary. Now I am due to fly to New York from London on Saturday and the flight is a B.A. flight but it's operated by American Airlines.
The recent tragedy(poor poor people) in Nepal has really unsettled me, we are due to fly in four weeks to India and Nepal and the old jitters are kicking in, negative thinking is so hard to stop and manage. Perhaps Keith's DVD will help, I'ii watch it agaain tomorrow.
I hope you are well.
We've booked a flight to Croatia next June for a week!
We are on a air conditioned catamaran with Chris's brother and wife.
Instead of the usual nerves visiting the airline's website, we sat together and booked our seats there and back, and decided on baggage etc.... now it's booked. Apparently it's 2 hours 40 mins from Bristol. Twice the duration of Jersey. I would never have booked this if it hadn't been for you and…Continue
