First one hmm?

So I doubt there's anything new going to crop up here.   I've been doing long haul flights since I was 13 years old and never had an issue.  However over the last four years I've started developing acute anxiety ahead of and during flights.   I have the mindset though that I won't let something like that stop me from going anywhere.

It's a nice thought, shame it doesn't work out well in practise.

Just in March I flew to Australia from Ireland, which was 11 hours…

international jets

hi. this is my first time posting. thanks for all the support. I'm leaving for Ireland tomorrow from the U.S. and I've been working hard to reduce my anxiety. Today I found out that the plane we are taking is a 757 (I thought it would be a jumbo jet). Since I'm claustrophoic, the larger jet felt better to me and now I'm more anxious because I thought most international flights were jumbo jets. I need some reassurance that the smaller jet will be fine on a long flight. :( thanks!!

Interesting information on turbulence

Hi Keith and all,

I regualrly check in to this site and everyone really helped me get through my long haul flights late last year from Melbourne to Europe. I saw on the news telecast tonight (in Melbourne) there was a change in safety checks from australias civil aviation authority CASA. I found this interesting and read that it is due to new planes not needing as many checks, which makes sense to me.

I found some interesting info on the CASA website about turbulence - in my… Continue

Trip

Terrified of flying, especially hate take offs. Have to make myself look out the side and down as cannot stand to see the incline of the plane. Get the feeling it's going to stall and fall. Horrible. Cannot take the turbulence...freaks me out no matter how many times I tell myself it's like riding in a truck...not at 37,000 ft it's not. Had a couple scary experiences back in early 1970. That did it.

Having a setback...very angry

Hi Keith,

The battle continues, I came on your course and subsequently managed to get to Australia where I now live with my wife, thank you for your message on Twitter it was nice of you to ask how it went. The answer to how it went is not that good - imagine a crying, quivering ball of fury sat in a seat. That was me. I did it though and I got better, I worked on it, I practised my strategies, I had a plan and was able to go on my honeymoon with very low levels of…

A new fear

Hi everyone,

This is my first time posting to this site, although I've been a member for a time.

I am interested to find out if there is anyone else like me out there in terms of my story with flying.

I have never been afraid of flying. I like to think I'm still not (of flying). I am a frequent flier currently, and although I am wary of flying, I still do it.

In 2005 I lived overseas in Scotland for a year (I'm from Canada). During that year I flew everywhere:…

Long haul Flight to Melbourne from London

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this blog but I thought I would write about my flying situation as it is giving me a lot of anxiety.

I actually have two flights booked this year. The first is a two hour trip to Majorca with Monarch airlines. I am not too worried about this flight since I have flown with Monarch before and they were good. I am also aware that I will have Valium which tends to calm me for most of the two hours.

My main concern is in September I will be flying with…
