Dear Captain Keith
I just wanted to say a big thank you for all the help and advice you and this site have given me ... i am feeling much more comfortable about my forthcoming flights than I would have been without reading your book/ watching your dvd/ and reading everyone's thoughts and shared concerns, and your replies, on here.
I'm not 100% happy and am sure I shall feel nervous and at times panicked on board - and if time and childcare permitted would have liked to have… Continue

I am travelling to turkey in 2 weeks and my fear is increasing each day! i dont know if it is the fear of dying or small spaces but i end up in tears everytime. am ok when im in the air but then when it is time to desend, again i am sobbing in my… Continue

Dear Captain Keith
I've just discovered I'm flying along with my family on a turboprop and wondered whether you feel just as safe as a passenger flying on ATR 72 as a 747-400... (i've got these two flights coming up shortly). Many of the safety features you mention in your book seem to refer to features present on board larger jet aircraft. I had a frightening experience on a turboprop once and have felt nervous of htese ever since, a problem with the rudder and we had to go back to… Continue

I wondered if anyone knew of the cause yet of that Ethiopian Airways crash that happened a few months back... it's still on my mind that the plane took off in a storm, apparently a flash and it came down - all seemed so sudden and so horrific. I'm flying on two flights in around a months time - one 1 1/2 hour within Europe, then onto a tropical location on an 11 hour flight. It's not going to be relaxing as we're taking twin toddlers aged 2 3/4...and it's 24 hours of… Continue

I'm taking a 9 hour flight in two days and I must say that this site has helped me manage my stress. I don't actually have a fear of the technical side of flying; I'm actually quite fascinated by planes and I do enjoy certain aspects of the flight. Like many other contributors I've read, I've flown quite a bit, without any apprehension, and suddenly, one day, I just started panicking about flying, and for no known reason. I did no airplane trips for years because of… Continue

Hi everyone - it has been a while since I have posted on here and today I felt like I really needed to. For about a year and a half now I have been putting off flying again and have cancelled numerous trips however when my boyfriend found out his family were holding a birthday party for his dad in Ireland I thought it was a great opportunity to try and get on the plane again.
So he booked me a ticket and told me not to think about it until the morning of the flight and then decide what I… Continue

I am not the most confident flier
I was fine flying as a teenager.
I went through a long phase of being very scared of flying particularly while my children were young when I was always worried who I would pick to get out of the plane if there was a problem.
Having read Keith's book it enabled me to get the logic in perspective of the whole experience and in the last year or two it has grown easier and dare I say it exciting.
But I have… Continue

Hello everyone. I suppose I am the newbie on this block. It is great to find such a resource.
Ironically I used to love flying as a boy. Now my job entails flying to exotic destinations. Lucky me! But yeah, I am also fearful. Have to fly to Uganda from New York on Saturday. Forecast calls for nasty rain and wind in NY on Saturday and yeah, I am quite nervous.
Intellectually I know there is nothing to be nervous about. Planes fly in weather like this all the time. To the… Continue

This is my first blog! My name is Lynne and in a couple of months time I will be flying from Manchester to Barbados. Most people would be over the moon but already I am starting to have sleepless nights. Its not that I havnt flown before (and I have been to Barbados twice before) but because of a couple of bad experiences I am getting myself into a state that this will happen again. The experiences were mainly due to severe turbulance but also a really bad approach and landing at… Continue

Its nice to be back on here again.
I managed a flight to Jersey in 2007 with your help and Phoebe's too.
Well, looks like I am off there again in the Summer. We are looking at flights from Gloucester Airport.
There is a prop plane called a Dornier 228D and I am unsure about how the flight may be on one of those?
Is it pressurised? How high do they go? Are they very small? Are they noisy? Are they as safe as a jet?
Is a small airport as good as a… Continue

I just wondered, looking at your book Captain Keith, you talk about the plane's ability to glide for 30 mins, which is really reassuring. Can I ask whether this is still applicable though during take off or landing? On my last landing it felt as though the nose was dipping down for a second until the pilot booted up the power upon descent.
Also you talk in your dvd about the planes' abilities nowadays to fly themselves' (bigger planes etc) - but this makes me… Continue

First of all I would like to thank Keith who was very kind and helpful. So thank you Keith!
Well my name is Michele, and I too am quite scared of flying, so before anything else this will help me overcome my own fears!
I am doing this research project on fear of flying.. what makes people not want to fly? For me.. well many factors really... I've had pretty bad experiences in the past, bad turbulence, bad take offs, bad landings... well... you probably know what I am… Continue

Hi Keith et all
I flew to Ireland on Thursday, back yesterday from Bristol with Ryanair and it was fine. I didn't really enjoy the flights though so a bit disappointed about that, when we took off on Thursday the plane climbed quite steeply, which I didn't like much, although it was perfectly safe, and then the seatbelt sign came on after it had gone off when we'd levelled out, which I panicked about a little, so i asked the hostess why, and they said something about wheeling the hot… Continue

I am flying to Lanzarote on 29th Dec. I thought I would be ok as I had spoken to captain Keith prior to my summer holiday in june and that was the best flight for me so far. I also read the Flying Without Fear book. Now I have about 3 weeks to go and I am getting really anxious.

I am new to this site but find it helpful. I am flying from Chicago to Phoenix a week from friday and I am nervous! I have flown before but with the help of Xanax ( anti anxiety drug) I have been watching the takeoff video and it seems to help. Does anyone know of a fearful flying course in the US?
