Florida trip - I made it there and back!

Hi All

I just wanted to let you know that I went to Florida for three weeks and got back on Thursday this week. I was very nervous about the flight but remained positive on the flight out and turbulence wasn't too bad. However it was a little shaky on the way back but I told one of the air stewardess' once I got onto the plane that I was a nervous flyer which made all the difference. I even had the First Officer speak to me whilst in flight, for around 5 mins and he showed me their weather map that they use and how they bypass areas where it could be difficult. What a difference that made! After that I didnt even have to hold or should I say clench my husbands arm when we hit areas of turbulence.

I am very proud of myself (and so is my husband) as I didnt even cry at touch down (as I always do).

I still don't like the descent but I am going to try and fly at the next opportunity.

Keith - your fear of flying course also made such a difference and I took my book with me and just kept remembering all the things you told me. A big thank you!! Anyone debating going on the course, just do it, it really helps to put everything into perspective.

HI Elizabeth

Very nice to hear from you. Oh Cuba, a wonderful place! Well I actually paid a little extra and went Premium Economy and was very spoilt. I enjoy Sudoku so I took a book with me and another ordinary puzzle one. I also took a good book to read and had my MP3 player filled with all the songs I love to listen to.

I have to be honest I can't remember what route we flew going, but I knew it was definitely over the Atlantic Ocean.

I wasn't able to see the coast as my husband was by the window but I did manage to look out just as we were landing. It was a spectacular sight.

Still I wish you luck on your flight, you will be perfectly all right. And remember to tell the crew once you get on the plane. They will look after you.

Take care, Lisa

Hi Lisa,
So glad to hear of your trip and how Keith's course and book helped you .
Your post adds to my confidence as in November I am flying to Cuba, my longest ever flight so far. How did you pass the time, other than breaks for eating and watching films? Which route did you fly? Could you see the coast of USA?
Well done, best wishes, Elizabeth.

Actually, by the time I'd listened to Keith's CDs, I wasn't a "nervous flyer" anymore.

In fact, my wife (who normally is never worried about flying) was nervous about the weather as we were driving to the airport in a downpour. I told her there was nothing to worry about since rain has no affect on a plane and that for the crew this was just a normal day in their lives. And that they have family and friend too and aren't going to do anything dangerous because they want to get home to see them too. All plagiarized from Keith.

It was weird, I was sort of hoping for turbulence so I could practice not being nervous. But the flight couldn't have been any smoother... like glass.

you will be fine David. They won't go through it at all hence you being 2.5 hours late! Just enjoy and make sure you have told them that you are a nervous flyer, it most certainly helped me. Take care

Thanks for your post... I'm on a Tarmac now, thinking about all the weather we're going to be flying around. But we are 2.5 hours late, so hopefully they won't fly thru it to make up time!
