Hi Captain Keith.

This is a fantastic resource especially for people like myself who are currently travelling. I flew from Dublin to Prague today and it was a fairly smooth flight. I did pretty well. However, I'm extremely nervous about my return flights home - 12 hours to Kuala Lumpur then 8 hours to Australia. I'm finding it very hard to put aside catastrophic thoughts, & focus on the reality of the situation. Any ideas as to how I can accomplish this? Thanks again, Amber.

Thanks again - I like the idea of breaking things down. I have a plan to have my meal, do some walking around & watch a movie, then to nap for a while if I can. I am feeling better. Will let you know how I go!

Hi Amber

It seems too obvious really, but why not treat your 12 hour flight as a number of two hour flights, where you have a strategy of things to do for  a couple of hours and then you repeat the pattern throughout the flight.

Rather than sit there passively and have the flight  tell you what to do, change it around and tell the flight what you're going to do.

Sounds a bit simplistic but it has worked for lots of people. The thing is to take control of what you are doing.

If there is a benefit to having catastrophic thoughts then keep on having them. If there isn't then why do you let them take over. The awful truth is that they are your thoughts and only you can control them. Put an elastic band on your wrist and give it an enormous 'ping' every time you have one of your 'bad' thoughts...they'll soon stop.

Make a plan and use it.

Well done for today's flight....or doesn't that count? Sure does count...you achieved something...well done ...keep building on it. Everything is progress except giving up.
