A longer video taken on my flight from San Francisco to Atlanta. First it is nice and smooth. Then the plane banks to make a turn. This is followed by some turbulence, the seatbelt jingle, and the flight attendant announcing that we should take our seats and put on our seatbelts. The rest of it is very turbulent and was a scary experience for me, but the wing hardly moves and the plane flies on quite happily - not dangerous at all. I also videoed the shaking water in my water bottle; it usually helps me to see how little we're actually moving, despite what it might feel like...

I have recently joined the site, and your video was the first one I watched as turbulance is my ultimate fear. I am convinced that the plane is going to fall out of the sky and I am going to die when it happens. Just watching your video made me feel sick! But the weird thing is that I know logically that I probably am not going to die, but its like my stomach has its own ideas. I hope I react the same was as you did if it happens to me. I just want to be able to enjoy the flight instead of dreadin it!! Sam

Well actually it was very bad both on the way there, and on the way back 4 days later. Maybe unsurprisingly, I was much better on the way back, although it was far from comfortable (and I think I still cried a bit). I also experienced something like that when I flew back to Europe from Mexico 3 years ago, although that only lasted a few minutes and that was short enough so I didn't cry. Of course what you should take away from this is not: "I'm going to experience this and panic next time" but rather: "Turbulence is normal, planes experience it all the time and they don't crash because of them." I.e. it should be an ENCOURAGING experience rather than a scary one - it was no miracle we "made it there", it was perfectly normal... The "miracle" (very surprising/unexpected/abnormal thing) would have been if we hadn't made it, so to speak. Now only if I could internalize it like that too, that would be great :D

John,it actually lasted a VERY long time, almost two hours or so...!! And yeah I broke down in tears too :( But I still got through it and saw beautiful things in California so it was all worth it :)

Well what can I say, I was shaking too, but, you know, it was all okay. My fear levels fortunately(!!) can't affect the plane's ability to fly... Taking the video was actually nice and distracted me a bit. I kept thinking, if we don't crash, I'll be very happy I took this video, and if we crash, it still doesn't make it worse..! Of course we didn't crash so I'm just happy I took it. :)

Brilliant Zsuzsanna, well done.  I would have been shaking with fear now and probably there would have been a wet seat Ugh.
