I will do this

With only 17 days and 8 hours (yep I'm counting down) till I board my flight to Paris I have decided to start blogging how I'm feeling leading up to it. For a bit of background I think my fear of flying really became a big problem once I'd had children. When I think of it most of my fears set in once I became a parent. All the what ifs.... what if the car crashed and leaves my kids orphans? what if the plane falls out of the sky..... etc etc etc. If i'm honest with myself I'm just a scaredy cat… Continue

I want to make a change...

For most of my adult life I have lived with panic disorder. But it reared it's ugly head a few years ago and it's been relentless every since.

I am able to do some things, though it is ALWAYS with someone with me. I RARELY, if ever venture out alone. My world has grown very small, and as I am looking forward to the years ahead. (I'll be 52 next year), I am disappointed in myself. I don't want this to be it.

I have the opportunity to travel from Washington State, to California in about… Continue

Claustrophobia & Panic Attacks

I have recently begun to have feelings of claustrophobia, although subconsciously I believe that I have had these feelings for some time, but that they had never truly bothered me. I had always chosen the aisle seat in the cinema or theatre, and the aisle seat on a plane and would only contemplate sitting in the middle or inside seat if I had extra leg room or no seats in front of me.

In the past I have experienced two incidents whilst flying, both of which though extremely… Continue

Florida trip - I made it there and back!

Hi All

I just wanted to let you know that I went to Florida for three weeks and got back on Thursday this week. I was very nervous about the flight but remained positive on the flight out and turbulence wasn't too bad. However it was a little shaky on the way back but I told one of the air stewardess' once I got onto the plane that I was a nervous flyer which made all the difference. I even had the First Officer speak to me whilst in flight, for around 5 mins and he showed me their… Continue

Florida - 2 days to go

Well since I have been on the fear of flying course back in January, I booked my flight to Florida and will embark on a journey of a lifetime on Wednesday. I have to say that I only had one wobble last week but am so positive about going on Wednesday. I have never felt so excited about a flight before which is so unlike me. I have had my last dose of acupuncture and I really am trying to keep a positive mind. So when I'm back I can tell you all about it. Thanks Keith - I keep remember you… Continue

First blog...

As someone who used to have a fear of flying,to the point where I had to be prescribed medication by the doctor before I flew, and someone who would spend the entire holiday worrying about the return journey, I am fascinated to learn about people's fear of flying, how it effects them personally and more importantly what can be done to help it.

I am particularly interested in learning how to help people, as I now ironically work as a Senior Cabin Crew member for an airline in the UK.… Continue

Finally a flight with no fear - just excitement.

It's taken just over 3 years and 18 flights for me to say that the last 2 flights were fear-free and just pure excitement. What a pity that it took me till I was 56 until I started to try and overcome my live-long fears.

If I can do it, anyone can. Just give it time and perserverence.

My Personal Fear of Flying

I have flown numerous times that last time being last year. I live in Erie Pennsylvania and flew from Cleveland OH to Houston TX and then to Puerto Vallarta Mexico round trip.... I took me few beers and 12 mg of Valium and still nothing could calm my anxiety... The anxiety I have is so bad I cry almost non stop as I travel along my journey... It is most traumatic for me during take off and until we are safely in the air at cruising altitude. I do not know why its really bad then....But in a few… Continue

My next Airborne experience

Well coming up i've got three flights. One from Dublin to London, then London to Athens, Athens to a Greek island.
I'm kinda nervous considering all the latest media attention on recent airplane crashes. I've done this journey before after watching Keiths DvD and book. It really helped, but it was kinda quite in the world of crashes then, this time i'll be extra nervous. But what can you do, "nothing" so i just gotta get on with it.

Sights and Sounds Seminar

Are you thinking of signing up for a fear of flying course? If you are then read on.

Overcoming the fear of flying is not about getting on a flight and proving that 'you can do it'. Many people succeed on a 'graduation flight' but are unable to deal with their fear in different circumstances.

Airline courses vary . Some are programs that run over several week ends, more typically others run for a day with lectures in the morning and a graduation flight later in the day.… Continue

Hi Captain Keith!!

So glad to receive this information! Since my initial posts on the forum - I have been able to overcome a lot of my fears of flying, and actually enjoyed a flight I took recently from Washington State to New Mexico! Still get jittery during takeoffs, but nothing like before.

I will definitely spread the word to anybody I know who has a fear of flying, and direct them to your new page - and I will certainly keep up to date on… Continue

Without doubt the best help and support that any fearful flyer can get is help and support that comes from people who feel the same way.

Sometimes fearful flyers want to hear from experts so that they can have their worries attended to, so we've kept the… Continue
