Hi All
This is my first post my names Denise and since the flights were booked last year I've done nothing but think about flying, I'm off to New York for the first time and should be excited.

It seems to me flying is getting less safe, terrorism really has me scared this is my main worry but not the only one .People tell me how safe it is to fly,I have books DVD but still nothing seems to help ,I would cancel but I'm going with family and don't want to let them down .
A petrified flyer.

Hi Denise, much sympathy, I really know how you feel. I used to be scared of flying too for the same reasons. I still am not a happy flyer but I am much, much better than I was. Keith's CDs and books helped an awful lot. You honestly can feel better about flying than you do - it just takes time and you have to train your mind right.

Hi Denise, I echo what Lisa has written. I attended one of Keith's first courses 5 years ago now and they are even better as they are now in a static 'plane. You can fire as many questions as you like to him and it is really reassuring to have information from a real pilot.
Regarding terrorism you can rest assured that every step is taken to ensure the security and safety of the passengers. Face your fears head on, just coming to this site is a huge step on the journey of flying with less fear.
Best wishes, Elizabeth

Dear Denise

I really know what you are feeling as I too was an extreme nervous flyer. I would really recommend that you go on Keith's flying course. It really helped me last year when I went to Florida. I have to say that my anxieties lessened after doing the course. Dont get me wrong I still got nervous on the flight but I was able to put everything into perspective. I have just come back from Toronto (last week), it was a work's trip and I had no family with me (the first time in years) but I felt such an achievement to have done that trip even though I was still anxious but hey I'm here talking to you.

Don't beat yourself up, I did that too, but it doesnt get you anywhere really. As I say, I do urge you to do Keith's course before you go to New York, you will learn so much more as I did and you will learn to face your fear.

I wish you all the best.

Denise did you really write this?

so a bit more worrying to do yet ...I know exactly how you feel because I meet lots of people like you...actually I don't know exactly how you feel, how could I because I love flying...I understand I should have said. Very first tip...don'r write emotive tghings because they will reinforce your worries.
You're not cheating yourself or tempting providence by avoiding that sort of language, you're helping yourself to deal with your fears...promise.

I'm on your side but I won't encourage you to do anything that doesn't help you. You have to face your fear...and you're beginning to do that by being here...well done you.

Where's the evidence that flying's less safe than it was? I wish you'd come along to one of our fear of flying courses...we really can help you. You're not on your own, you know that don't you.

As for letting your family down...would you be letting them down if you were ill and couldn't go? Be kinder to yourself...if you're anxious and worried about flying it's not a sign of weakness or letting your family down it's a fact and that's that. Who says you have to fly? Right now you're setting your sights too high. Say to yourself what circumstances would make me feel a bit better about flying? Maybe feeling a tiny bit better would help.

Right security: Security is better in aviation than on the railways. Terrorists don't want to destroy everything that moves...they just want us to think they could...that serves their cause better because they don't come in for so much criticism...if they acted every day of the week then their cause would go backwards. New York is fantastic, worth visiting for sure.

When do you fly? Give me a ring 01420 588 628 I 'll help you.

Hi Denise

I know how you are feeling, are your flights due soon?

I'm pretty much the same as you, so can't really offer much advice(yet), however if you watch the videos they are pretty good especially.

Just think on the positive side of things, New York will be amazing when you arrive.
