Too many horror stories on the news

I have flown several times. It has been five years since I flew last. It seems like since I booked my flight to Florida there have been news reports about near misses and air traffic control errors. I talk myself out of my fear then the new this morning sent me into an anxiety attack about the United plane which had an emergency landing on a deserted island. I feel like something or someone is trying to send me a message to not fly. I am completely freaked out now. My husband told me to stop watching the news and my kids are excited to fly. I offered a fourteen hour road trip but they said no. I kept myself anonymous because I do not want my kids to know how freaked out I am

I really appreciate your reply and your website helps calm me down. I am still anxious and not in a good way. My palms get sweaty and I feel like I am going to pass out at the thought of flying on Friday. I have never felt like this before a flight and I have convinced myself I am having a psychic moment and if I ignore that feeling something bad will happen. I know it sounds crazy but I cannot turn my brain off. I have a vivid image of the plane hitting a flock of birds or another plane crossing too close midair

Hi,

Look at any media reports about anything you have an in depth knowledge of. It's usually rubbish.

Since this forum started our policy  has  been to  tell people, not suggest to people, but to TELL them not to take any notice of media reports.

There are a few examples somewhere on this site where I have examined and commented on reports that people have sent me about planes and accidents. They are the same. Reported in emotional terms and factually incorrect.

That's all there is to it.

I need to say to you that if you keep reading media nonsense, believing them to be true  you will maker your fear of flying worse.
