Terrified of flying, especially hate take offs. Have to make myself look out the side and down as cannot stand to see the incline of the plane. Get the feeling it's going to stall and fall. Horrible. Cannot take the turbulence...freaks me out no matter how many times I tell myself it's like riding in a truck...not at 37,000 ft it's not. Had a couple scary experiences back in early 1970. That did it.

Turbulence tat shakes the plane heavily (Nashville to Louisville flight) terrifies me. in the video it didn't show the plane shaking hard, only te controls.

That's what I want & need, a plan to deal with turbulence & take off climb fears. True heights I annot deal with but used to love looking out the window at clouds below as long as they weren't storm clouds. Always requested seat by window & over wing soi could watch flaps. Haven't been able to pre check seats for upcoming flight. If little plane starts shaking scared I'll panic & embarrass myself.

Not sure other than I am a control freak....have trouble being a passenger in cars also....ask my children and friends....if I am driving I am okay...hence if I could sit up front with the big boys I would feel better.  More in control whether I am or not.  Afraid turbulence will break the plane apart...simply that. You are so right as to me hanging on to fears....I did lose a son to suicide....that may have something to do with my lost of control.  I knew it would happen and it was just a matter of time and I lost....

no. That is not a stall....without even knowing what actually happened on your flight I can assure you that you will not have slowed down and approached a stall to check that the gear was down.

wHy do you think that it's a problem if you can't fly around turbulence?

There is no point in hanging on to old ideas...they have brought you to where you are now. YOu have to change your understanding of what's going on before you can change your feelings towards them.

If you watched the video about turbulence that I have posted on this site ...where an ex fearful flyer is confidently flying a simulator in very turbulent conditions and is laughing a the same time...I do not understand why this makes you more scared...explain this feeling to me and you will explain it to yourself. I susspect that you have seen another video somewhere...what gives you e impression that the pilot needs to have a warning that the plane is about to enter turbulence.?

MOre important than waiting to be scared ...or hoping that there won't be any turbulence is to have a plan to deal with it when it happens. Wishful thinking and hoping is a complete waste of time and effort...otherrwise the ills of the world would be solved by hoping that kids didn't starve to death or dies of malaria.
I'm sure you think that I don't understand how you feel and how painful this is for you, but the surest way of overcoming your fear is to face it and find out the facts before deciding upon how you feel about a flight.
I am here to help you find the facts and dispel the fiction...it's not easy for you I know but that's just the way it is...what I do know is that it'll be worth it!

Confused....nothing but my own fear actually happened....but we sure appeared close to something happening.  A stall is caused by engine failure isn't it?  Or when the aircraft is approaching and has to slow down due to air traffic....I think.  However, this was landing gear issue, not a stall other than we had to stall to get the confirmation that landing gear was locked in.  Watched the video on turbulence and now even more scared as no warning....scared to death we're going to hit rough weather from Washington to Boston on that little flight and there won't be a way around it.

Lets start at beginning.....tell me what a stall is

Captain Keith,

One flight the landing gear did not lock in....beautiful Oct. sky day....we circled and circled to get the okay.  Saw the Co-pilot go to the back of the plane with funny look on his face.  I was 7 months pregnant and scared to death this was it.  They had fire trucks on ground and trucks ready to foam but finally they announced they got the green light landing gear was indeed locked.

Second time, actually one of my first times, flew through a nasty thunderstorm over Phoenix.  Pilot announced he could not fly above it...it was night, I closed the window shade but didn't help with the lightening and up and down dropping and rattling....another time in Jan coming back from Nashville which is just a short flight to Louisville, beautiful winter night but the ride was so bumpy....the entire way...we were bouncing around.....thought the aircraft was going to burst apart from the turbulence....no announcements were made, other than keep seatbelts fastened.  Thought for sure we were going to split apart.

And I live in Louisville, KY which is a hub for UPS; therefore we don't have many direct through flights which I hate.....never been on a 50 seater so really nervous about both flights.
